On a crisp spring day, Kelsey Roy and Joshua Mosley said "I do" at Bur Oak Brewing Company's industrial venue space in Columbia, MO.
Their wedding was the perfect mix of personal style, spring colors, and laid-back vibes, all with a killer music theme. From planning and designing, to entertainment and execution, the Blue Diamond Events team was thrilled to be such an integral part of their wedding.
I love learning all about our couples, and how they met. Each and every story is unique and its always these seemingly small details that help me to better understand a couple’s relationship and personalities.
Kelsey + Josh’s love story is one of the best IMO because it’s just so fun and spontaneous:
“Would you believe we're all here because of a French fry?! It's true. One lovely October evening, Kelsey's sister Michelle randomly snagged a fry from Josh's plate, leading to his and Kelsey's first meeting and a landmark day in the history of humanity (in our unbiased opinions). Thanks to that act of thievery, however, Josh and Kelsey have a life together full of laughter, love, dogs, stupid noises, dumb voices, and countless adventures — and the best is yet to come!”
— Kelsey Roy
When I sat down for the first time with Kelsey and Josh, they had already booked our DJ services, and were interested in adding Day-of Decorating help. We chose to meet at onsite at their venue to talk through details and decor in the space, and somewhere in the middle of our conversation they decided that our team was indeed the perfect fit to handle all of their wedding planning + day-of coordination needs. We also added the popular Bur Oak Full Room Decor Uplighting + Wash Lighting combo, and our Social Media Photo Booth packages, rounding out the rest of their entertainment and lighting needs.
Throughout the coming months, Kelsey and I spent time texting, researching vendors, and working out the floor plan and decor aspects of their overall design. Then our team got to work planning out all of the logistics, finalizing their wedding day timeline, and organizing their decor details. Our 30+ page timeline document becomes our vendor team's wedding day guide for all decor set up and vendor event timing, and when I say literally EVERYTHING goes onto this document I am not exaggerating. Because our timelines are quite lengthy, we always make a fun, personalized single-page Wedding Party Timeline for our VIPs to take home with them the evening before, so everyone will know where to be when and who to call if they have any questions. It also has handy reminders for what to bring with them on the morning-of for getting ready needs, and a few fun wedding day facts are usually thrown in for good measure.
After a month or so of planning, and after we had already finished our floor plan for Bur Oak, venue manager Dan surprised us with the knowledge that they have opened up another 720+ sq. ft. of space next to the cooler where they used to have storage items. This meant we were blessed with the flexibility of being able to move their ceremony over to a dedicated space, which our team then later flipped for dance floor use during dinner.
Kelsey and Joshua wanted a wedding that screamed "them," with a boho-chic style and a heavy emphasis on their love of music. From their mustard yellow, sage green, slate blue, and French lilac color scheme, to the custom created vinyl record ceremony backdrop, concert ticket place cards, music inspired decor scattered throughout, and the best playlist, every detail was spot on, and our team was SO HERE FOR IT!
As their go-to Final Stages Planner + Day-of Chaos Coordinators, our rockstar team and I handled everything from vendor communication, to set-up, to last-minute decor ideas and everything in between!
The first time we met at the brewery, Kelsey showed me a sample photo of a vinyl record ceremony backdrop she'd seen online, and of course I was instantly in LOVE (being the musician and music lover that I am) and so I thought now THIS is something that just HAS to happen! So I got to work researching who might have a similar rental, and when everything I found in our area was way out of Kelsey and Josh's budget, I thought "Well ... we'll just have to have this one custom made for them then." So we did! And I couldn't be happier with the results. Just look at how perfectly florist Kailey of Bare Roots LLC adorned it with these 2 gorgeous boho-style floral arrangements:
Another thing Kelsey + Josh went back and forth deciding on was what to do about their guest book. They really wanted something fun and interactive that also fit with the music theme. After searching through options, they found this sheet music thumb print guest book page that was just what they wanted.
Of course their table decor was full of thoughtful, musically themed decor, including these customized vinyl records that were used as chargers, concert tickets place cards, and custom created album cover centerpieces - all items that our couple DIYed - complete with a thank you note to guests on the back cover! They really are the sweetest couple ever and it was so clear throughout their day that all of their guests just adore them.
Kelsey also created this vinyl record themed photo booth template (something we would normally do for our clients, but Kelsey couldn't help herself, plus her Canva skills were on point and this template is just too perfect for their big day) and we made a custom screen and GIF overlay to match of course.
Their wedding day was pure magic.
While Kelsey + Josh, their wedding party, and their hype crew (yes you read that right ... they essentially had 2 wedding parties with different duties, and truly this is the best idea ever) were enjoying their mornings at their respective AirBnbs getting ready, having a blast, and taking amazing photos (see gallery below), our team and their vendors were all hard at work prepping their space to welcome guests later that evening.
The first vendor to arrive onsite was talented florist Kailey Russell - owner of Bare Roots. She delivered personal florals to the wedding party before meeting us at the venue to adorn the welcome sign from Pretty Little Things and ceremony backdrop with her gorgeous florals.
The day before, prior to rehearsal call time, I met new local vendor Caitlyn + her team at Cheerful Air Balloon Company to install a 20ft luxury balloon garland complete with pearl embellishments on the Bur Oak bar.
It was the perfect touch to hide the logos on the top of the tent, beautifying and highlighting the bar area.
Abby Does Charcuterie arrived ahead of guests to prep the 16ft long charcuterie display and they were so great and easy to work with. I love how they brought along real greenery and floral stems to enhance the table decor for a more elevated experience!
Cocktail hour preceded the ceremony, a less common timeline choice, but it made perfect sense in this space and with their timeline. The ceremony, held in the new addition to the main venue space, was full of family, friends, a bit of humor, and heartfelt vows.
The reception was a total blast, featuring epic music playlist of all of their favorite tunes, a lively Social Media Photo Booth, and mouth-watering eats from Lilly’s Cantina and Abby Does Charcuterie.
There were so many unforgettable moments. Joshua + Kelsey created a touching "in memory" display to honor loved ones who couldn't be there. From their first dance and parent dances, to karaoke, to their cake cutting (complete with custom cake toppers that Kelsey handmade of their sweet pups), everything about their big day was personalized to their relationship and all of the things that they love most.
The music was a culmination of all of their favorite artists, and prelude music consisted of classic tunes from the greats like Al Green, Sam Cooke, Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, Leon Bridges, The Four Tops, and Otis Redding.
The wedding party walked down the aisle to "Stand By Me" by Florence & the Machine, and their recessional song was an upbeat favorite - “Praise You” by Fat Boy Slim.
Kelsey + Josh shared their first dance to Stevie Wonder's "For Once in my Life" as guests looked on with tears in their eyes and big smiles on their faces. It was such a joy to watch them have the best time dancing together. You can see how much they care for each other and enjoy each other's company.
The dance party kicked off with Nelly's "Ride Wit Me" and guests enjoyed the upbeat mixes by Co-Owner and Elite DJ/MC Jonny Fuzion. The rest of the evening was full of dancing, drinks, late night pizza, photo booth fun, and Tap Room karaoke!
"Lisa & Jonathan and their crew were incredible for our wedding day. We were so lucky to have them in charge of coordination, decor, DJing, the photo booth, lighting, and various other contributions they made to our day.
Lisa handled our day-of coordination, but really she was so much more than that. She was the chaos coordinator, and made sure that our big day went smoothly. Aside from her various vendor connections and creativity, one of our favorite things about working with Lisa is how calm and collected she remained throughout the entire process, no matter the issue at hand. She also went above and beyond to communicate with us and with all of our vendors, organize all of the details, and come up with ideas to make everything come together.
Jonathan was our DJ, and one of the most common compliments of the night was how amazing the DJ was. We heard it over and over again, and continue to hear about how much fun the dance floor was! Jonathan also went above and beyond to make sure that our ceremony, processional, reception, and dinner music reflected our personalities.
In addition: Everyone loved the photo booth and the assistant was so kind, patient, and helpful. The lighting really helped spruce up the venue, and they changed the lights to match the vibes as we transitioned to different parts of the event. Oh, and after searching for a unique backdrop and coming up short due to hefty price tags, Lisa actually designed a custom backdrop for us within our budget!
Next time we need to host a big event, we will hands down choose BDE. They were attentive, fun, communicative, and exactly the crew we hoped for."
